At Smiling Sites, we believe everyone deserves access to reliable technology. Our Refurbishment Program accepts gently used devices, gives them a second life, and places them back into the community to support education, employment, and everyday life — with a special focus on Detroit and the metro Detroit area.

Giving Devices a Second Life
We professionally wipe, repair, and optimize used laptops and smartphones. Devices receive a fresh operating system and carefully selected, privacy-respecting software so they’re ready for immediate use.
The program operates at little to no cost for recipients, reducing e-waste while equipping students, job seekers, seniors, and families with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.

How to Donate Your Device
We’re currently accepting laptops and smartphones that are recent enough to be repaired and used safely. Here’s how the donation process works:
- Check eligibility: We generally accept laptops under 8 years old and smartphones under 5 years old that power on and are in fair, repairable condition (minor cosmetic damage is okay).
- Back up & reset: Before donating, please back up any important data and perform a factory reset if you can. We will still complete a professional data wipe during refurbishment.
- Schedule drop-off: Contact Smiling Sites via email or phone to coordinate a drop-off time and location. We’ll confirm details and answer any questions.
- See the impact: When possible, we’ll share stories and updates about how donated devices have helped local students, families, and neighbors stay connected.

- Local teachers (with valid school ID)

- Current students (K-12 & college)
